Booked a room for 3 Adults and had a huge room - a really grand old hotel with beautiful lounge and dining room. Staff excellent
Top Tip
On the riverfront there are numerous restaurants - about 10 walk downhill from the hotel - perhaps a taxi back to the hotel!
Dont forget to try a glass of the Port!

This is a charming hotel oozing with faded grandeur, but we were a little alarmed by a large framed notice on the reception desk which read "complaints book available". Indeed we were aware of many people complaining. One particularly vociferous complaint took place in a main thoroughfare. An extremely angry man was shouting at a (?) manageress that he "didn't pay good money to be put in a hole in the ground". The complaint referred to the size and nature of his bedroom, and this was the substance of most complaints that I am aware of. Indeed our own room was the smallest we have ever encountered. We were tempted to avail ourselves of the "extra bed" offered at 15€ merely to enjoy the spectacle of attempts to squeeze it in the available 0.5m2 of free space. However even waking one morning to find the entire hotel plunged in darkness and having to endure a cold shower did not spoil our enjoyment of the few days. Next time we will definitely request a larger room
Top Tip
The wonderfully atmospheric Majestic Cafe is only a stone's throw away. Don't be tempted by the English tea though.

If you are travelling by car plan the trip well as Porto is a very busy city, the street outside the hotel is for pedestrians, car park is around the back, once you know this its easy
