Definitely recommend only a river-side room, which is crushingly expensive but the views of the Douro and city are amazing. We stayed one night on the fifth floor - room 512 - and it was fantastic but lots of money.
Top Tip
Lots of cafes and restaurants around the river side, boat trips, and the port houses on the other side of the river are in walking distance. It takes time to absorb Porto's charm - it's run down in places and the river frontage isn't Venice by any means, but it's definitely worth a visit, especially to find out about the port business which is fascinating.

fantastic location, right on the river front and central to lots of bars and restaurants. Room had great aircon and rooms were very sound proof.
Only draw back was that our room wasn't cleaned until 1630 hrs, which after a day in the heat wasn't great, however, I would definately stay there again.

Unfortunatel our booking was changed when we arrived and we were re-located to the Hotel Infante De Sagres. This was a very nice Classical Portugese Hotel, but the location of the Pestana was what we would have prefered.
We can not be factual on the facilities or cleanliness as we only used the restaurant.
Top Tip
In compensation for the move we were offered a free dinner in the Pestana Restaurant. The food, service and views from the balcony were excellent.

Great hotel in a fabulous location! Ideally located for sightseeing, and access to a variety of good restaurants/cafes. Also convenient for going to Vila Nova de Gaia for visiting the port houses, which are just a 10 minute walk across the bridge.
