It is worth the walk to the harbour as the selection of restaurants is much better. There are many cafes locally serving basic food.

Bring your walking shoes as the city is very hilly. Use taxis as they are very reasonable

Located near the centre of town the Quality hotel is great value for money. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the buffet breakfast is excellent. The hotel is located at the top of a hill so may be a problem for anyone with walking difficulties, although public transport and local tram cars run regularly throughout the day and stop right outside the hotel so these can be used to get up the hill if it proves too challenging. You can also jump on the funicular railway from the river which stops only a short walk from the hotel.
Top Tip
Would recomend the O Cacula Restaurant, Rua Antonio Bessa Leile, which states "everything we have is exceptional except the price"
Had one of the best steaks ever for 8 euro. A bit difficult to find but well worth the effort.

Great value for money. Very convenient location and friendly staff. Car Parking in local garage excellent and cheap.
Top Tip
Use the tour bus that stops outside the hotel. If driving make sure you use the garaged parking. Try to find time to drive up the Douro Valley, keeping to the northern bank along the N-108.
